About Me
Born in the coal fields of Western Kentucky, I always had an affinity for music and the arts in general. After 4 unsuccessful years at Western Kentucky University, I moved down to Atlanta, with the more than subtle urging from my parents.
I remember the first weekend I was there, we went downtown to an event had never heard of before- The Guiness Oyster Festival. And the band that was playing? Drivin N Cryin! The mass of people and sights and sounds and smells of everything around, I was hooked. Atlanta was home.
I LOVED the Atlanta music scene in the Early 2000's . There was an event at the Roxy (now Buckhead Theatre) where everyone brought there cameras to celebrate the release of The Josh Joplin Group "Camera One" single, and I took a few photos there, but that was on a on Canon FTb 35mm camera Dad let me borrow. Thanks Dad!
I did take photos, albeit bad ones for other events along the way, but nothing I was super proud of, save for one Iconic photo of Josh Joplin at Star Bar that you see here. It was taken on an old Canon Powershot... nothing really sophisticated yet.
Skip forward a few years, I began my real photographic career in 2022. To be honest, before that time I was intimidated by the new cameras because of al the buttons and switches and the learning curve seemed incredible. Plus with he advent of the iPhone, it was just as easy to do "GOOD photography" with it versus a traditional camera. Wow, I am glad to have gotten over that.
My father, Jim, was a really great photographer, but passed in 2018. I guess in some ways, I use this to connect with him. It would have been fun to do this together, but this is the best I've got.
As of now, I am enjoying the ability to show these amazing artists' talents through my lens. I hope you enjoy this gallery of my work.
